Faux silk card using Stampin' Up! products

Today, we focus on flowers which are appropriate images ANY day of the year. This is an older technique, but still one of my favorites!  It adds so much detail to a card with just a little effort. It is known as the faux silk technique and you use tissue paper to look like silk.  Hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Custom Notepad & Pen holder created with Stampin' Up! products

This past weekend, Stampin' Up! demonstrators gathered at several USA cities for some fun and training and a member of my team made these for her team mates. I flew to sunny San Diego this Friday to meet up with 7 members of my team. Imagine how cute this would be for a Christmas list using holiday DSP or a teacher gift or a stocking stuffer, etc.... My best guess is that each one costs about $2.50 (DSP, case and pen including tax). I did not add in the cost of adhesive.

Supplies:
  • 1 sheet of any regular (plus some specialty) 12" x 12" Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper
  • 1-1/2" Circle Punch (138299), Flower Medallion Punch (137417), and the 2-5/8" circle out of the Layering Circle Framelits (141705)
  • Adhesives: SNAIL(104332) and Tear & Tape (138995)
  • Standard Stamp Cases (119105) - they come 4 to a pack and are the DVD size - the size meant for clear-mount and photopolymer stamp sets
  • 1 Mini Legal Pad - I bought mine on Amazon ($6.59 per dozen; link to them on Amazon here). The mini legal pads are too long as-is. I took 2 dozen to Fed Ex Kinko's and they cut them down to 7" in length in 2 cuts for a total of $2.98. You must cut them for them to fit.
  • 1 Pentel RSVP medium point pen - I bought mine at Staples (I paid $8.99 per dozen but they are on sale for $4 per dozen right now!; link to Staples.com here and note that if you join their rewards program, shipping is free when you spend about $15)
Measurements:
  • Designer Series Paper for cover: 7" x 10-1/2" (be sure to cut with the direction of the pattern in mind)
  • Horizontal band is the reverse of whatever DSP you just cut and is 1-1/2" x 10-1/2"
  • Mini Legal Pad topper: 2" x 5"
  • Pen insert: 1" x 3"
  • Larger circle: any coordinating* card stock about 3-1/4" x 3-1/4"
  • Flower Medallion: any coordinating* card stock about 3" x 3"
  • Center of flower: I printed on Shimmery White card stock on my color printer then punched out. You can put anything in that center including another coordinating* color and nothing in it or a piece of DSP or stamp a monogram, etc...
*Note: remember that all of our Designer Series Paper lists the colors used in that paper so all those colors are coordinating and can be used for the accent pieces.

Instructions:
  1. Adhere the horizontal band onto the main DSP about 1" from the bottom using SNAIL.
  2. Punch and die cut the circles and flower. Adhere to one another then adhere onto the cover so it sits to the right of center and ends about 1/2" from the right edge of the DSP cover.
  3. Slip the whole piece into the case.
  4. Using Tear & Tape and the 2" x 5" DSP, put 2 strips on each long edge of the DSP and 1 strip on the spine of the mini legal pad. Starting with the front, line up edge of DSP with the edge of the topper already on the mini legal pad and adhere. Next, remove the layer to make the spine piece sticky and press front of DSP down on the front and firmly curve over the spine and press into spine to get a good connection. Lastly, unstick the last strip and while pressing from the top of the back down, get a firm connection to the back of the legal pad.
  5. Slip the legal pad into the case. Your choice as to whether you adhere it to the case with Tear & Tape. I did not because I wanted the option to write on it outside the case. Either way is fine.
  6. Unscrew the bottom edge of the pen and remove; it will take the actual pen/ink out of the barrell. Take the 2" x 5" piece of DSP for the pen and tightly and evenly wind around a narrow round stick such as a round chopstick (which I used) or a bamboo skewer or any skinny stick. As you tightly wind it, keep a firm hold on it (you may have to wind it more than once to get the hang of it). While keeping it tightly wound in one hand, slip it into the pen barrel while still keeping a firm grip on it to avoid it loosening. If it doesn't go all the way in, you can gently push it in with the tip of your chopstick (it really works!). You can always use tweezers to remove and redo. Don't give up.... it really is easy once you get the right grip on it. Screw pen end back in, insert on top of mini legal pad and snap shut. It bulges a tiny bit but it does easily snap shut.
You can make these in assembly-line fashion and whip out 20 of them out in no time.

Carousel Birthday card using Stampin' Up! products

How cute is this card??  I belong to the Stampers for Others team and my upline and fellow team mate Stella MacKay made this card for the Occasions 2017 swap that we did.  I think it is a great card for a children’s birthday or any one of your loved ones.  It reminds me of fairy tales mixed with a little vintage and that is PERFECT to me!

Here is the recipe in a nutshell:

·         Carousel Birthday Stamp set (Occasions Catalog pg. 9)

·         Layering Ovals Framelits Dies

·         Ink: Tip Top Taupe (one of my favorites)

·         Paper: Cupcakes & Carousels Designer Series Paper Stack (Occasions Catalog page 9), Calypso Coral, and Very Vanilla Cardstock

·         Very Vanilla ¼” Satin Ribbon (Occasions Catalog pg. 51), Gold Sequin Trim, Paper-Piercing Tool, and Paper Snips

This Saturday is Stampin’ Up! OnStage where demonstrators from all over the globe will gather in Amsterdam for the new catalog reveal and there will also be off-site locations all over the world where others can participate.  I am attending the OnStage event in San Diego and cannot WAIT to see the new catalog, new product, and all my Stampin’ Up! friends.  I will be sure to post (what I can) next week of all the fun we had.

One of the perks of being a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator is we get to order product early (before it's released).  This week we ordered the brand new Eastern Palace Suite that will be made available to all of you on May 1st. Yay!!  It will feature three of the brand new In Colors 2017-2019.  Those colors are Lemon Lime Twist, Tranquil Tide and Fresh Fig.   More details soon!
